What is a Maximum Bid?

When you place an absentee bid on an item we are selling, we ask you to place your maximum bid (which means as high as you would like to bid).  Your bid will begin at the next bidding increment.  If another bidder places bids on the same item after you have placed your bid, we will execute your bid for you up to your requested amount until you either win the item or get outbid.  If you are outbid, we will send you an email or text (depending on your system preferences).  Please note that for our live Gallery or Quarterly auctions, each lot will close for online absentee bidding four lots before it approaches the auctioneer's podium.  At that point, outbid notifications will not be received.

When looking at an item detail page you can always see how many bids this item has received to date, as well as the bidding history.  All bids follow our standard bid increments which can be found in our terms and conditions for each sale.
